Does anyone use this programme? I always view my photo's via this. Yesterday, I viewed one photo via Windows Viewer just to see if it worked. Is it me but I can no longer see this photo with my Paintshop infact I cannot see it at all. The whole image is dark green. Do you think that I have pressed the wrong button along the line? Any views appreciated please. Margaret N |

Windows Viewer stores images as .TIF files by default if you push 'Save as'. I suspect your original file is still there somewhere as well. Go into My Documents and find the folder that you save your pictures in, and where it says 'View' select 'Details'. That will show all the files in a neat list and what type of file they are. If you sort them by filename you may find 2 copies of your picture, described by different file formats. Tell us what you find and we should be able to tell you which is the right one. It's highly unlikely that your original file has been corrupted or renamed. J |

Hi Margaret, I think you mean Paintshop don't you? Although it sounds like it is giving you pain! It sounds to me as if the file associations have become confused. Basically on your computer rival applications fight over which one of them should open certain files unless you create a file association for it. If you open Paintshop and then search for the file, you should still be able to see your original picture. If you want Paintshop to be the programme that you open photos with by default then you must change the file associations back. I have Paintshop on my PC but only use it to open my photos when I want to edit them (improve them). Other than that I look at them with the Windows Viewer. Cheers, Horatia |

Horatia, 'Pain'shop is the word in real terms have corrected my spelling. John, I have viewed everything and looked at file associations, preferences etc. It is only listed once but is still green even though I have tried to open it with windows but no luck. I notice that my scanned images are saved in .tiff P/shop says that it does not support this file format but it is checked in the box. All these odd things have only happened since I put my new HP printer on a couple of weeks ago. I tried to make contact with HP but they told me that I could only use the help pages on the net or to have a personal reply by email they would require a fee. I will go on working at it and I plan to send the file to Mark and see what he makes of it. Thank you all so much for your help it is very kind of you. Margaret N |

Hi Margaret, If you go to My Computer then go to the TOOLS menu at the top toolbar then look for FOLDER OPTIONs - then choose the File Types tab. Scroll through the file types until you get to jpg or jpeg - click on them and it should tell you which programme they open with. On mine JPEG opens with Paintshop and JPG opens with Windows Viewer - how about yours? Cheers, Horatia PS I don't mind helping - not forced to reply am I? ;-) |

Hi Horatia, Keeping you up late! What a usefull tip and I thought that I had looked at most of these things. PC's have so much it is difficult to remember everything one see's. P/shop Icon: When I click on JPEG & JPG it says that they can be opend by P/shop. It looks if I use the advance tab that I can make them all either JPEG or JPG and not the mix I now have. It is the same with TIF and TIFF. I also have a different icon Windows Viewer / Fax says: JPE - JPEG Image and says that I can change all my files to that format. Val, has just emailed me the missing photo (I sent it to her last month). I cannot find a way of saving it. When I do a SAVE AS the drop down menu options are to save it as 'email icon' 'text' or 'hmtl ' I have tried saving it as an attachment but that has not worked for me. I am not sure if it is the operator or if my PC needs setting up another way - will talk to my PC man next week. Thank you for your help. I will keep you informed how I get on. Must think about bed after I have fed my 'CAT' priorities you know in this house. Sleep well, hope to be on line tomorrow unless I go sailing but it is raining at the moment. Cheers, Margaret |

Margaret All Windows files have a 3-letter extension (the bit after the *dot* that says what type of file it is). JPEG files have the extension JPG TIFF files have the extension TIF Another common types is bitmap (BMP) J |

To All, who have helped me a real big thank you and to Paul who has told me how to save an emailed photo. I had never received one before. Easy when you know the answer as they say on Who want's to be a Millionaire. Best wishes, Margaret |
