When I started this malarkey I was at the 'grab all the names you can' stage, and after reading a few threads like Linda's earlier I realise that I may have offended in that way at some stage (I do get the punishment of loads of hot matches and enquiries for families to which I have only a tenuous connection!) Anyway, as of today I have downloaded my GR tree and will prune out all those low lying growths and then re-upload it. If I have offended, please forgive and put it down to a complete ignorance at that time of the etiquette of these things. Mark |

No need to confess Mark. It is up to you how you wish to manage your tree. If you wish to add people who are connected via marriage but not blood, then do it. Obviously, you have to ask permission before using names Regards Jeanie A. |

hiya mark, I too hold my hand up, and fess up!!! I did it too, however i have since learnt that it pays dividends to ask, before i take, I think alot of people have been this way, just makes you realize just how other people react, and not really realizing how much hard work has actually gone into getting the names/dates etc.. I now know better, and have even gone so far as to email parties and asked them for permissions to add their, people to my website, with living info hidden, (apart from names) SORRY if I have offended anyone, in the past Julie |

Hi Mark, I did the same at first too. I had just traced my birth parents and was given access to both sides of my birth family tree so I stuck it all on here. I was so excited at the novelty of looking at this great big family tree consisting of several hundred people and knowing I was related by blood to each and every one of them. It was fantastic! Until the contacts started coming in mind you. At first I just loaded more and more peeps onto my tree until I got so overwhelmed, I deleted the lot and started again. Now I have just my adoptive tree on here - they may not be my blood, but they are my family. And I have researched each entry myself, backed up with a small forest worth of certificates. It is very easy to get carried away when you start out, and I suspect a lot of people do. Liz :-) |
