Were there electoral rolls in 1911? I have just found out that my gt gt grandfather died in 1912 in the town that i live in now....which is quite a shock to me as none of the others came from this area...anyway how would i find which parish he lived in without ordering the death cert Janet.

The electoral rolls have been going for as long as there have been elections, which is for most of 19th century, though the vote was much more restricted then. 1911 you'd need to be male and over 21 to be on the roll. Electoral rolls are at county records offices, libraries and local history centres. The British Library at St Pancras also has an extensive collection. Some are bound and on open shelves, others are fragile and need to be ordered from a strong room. Some have been microfilmed. BUT unless you have an address, or are searching a small village, it is a v. difficult job to find someone, as they are arranged by parliamentary ward and then alphabetically by street. nell

Thanks for that...so there wouldnt be an alphabetical list of people in a certain town...it is not a very common name. Janet

Nope. But you might find him listed in a residential or trade directory.
