Hi, Valerie, I don't have an answer, but I am with Tesco Broadband, and thinking of moving to talk, talk, so I would be very interested in your experience. I hope it is sorted out soon. Anne |

But Val, you were being disconnected a lot before talktalk took over the line werent you - cos you thought the line take over may sort it. You havent actually got talktalk broadband yet have you? Have Tescos given you that MAC code yet? |

Anne Ive had talktalk since May 11 and it has been brilliant. Never disconnected, it is much faster than wanadoo and instead of £33 for it Im paying £10 a month (you may get it free if your exchange is modern and updated). |

Have you tried reinstalling your tesco internet disc thing? Perhaps something has been corrupted. |

I just rang Tesco again they said the same thing, but I have noticed the Phone line has quite a crackle on it and I remember sometime ago being told that can interfere with a PC, also the Phone is engaged when I pick it up no dial tone , very strange things happening here. Did you get the House ???? |

Ideally the connection from your computer to the BT socket needs to be one continuous line, with no joins. the slightest movement of the broadband cable at either end near the plugs can cause this kind of fault. Make sure you are not moving the cable about with you feet under the table. We had a problem when the post arrived it dropped through the letterbox onto the cable and broke the connection. A quick wobble of the plug and all was ok again. They do not take too kindly to being bashed with the Hoover either. ANY join in the cable will reduce the performance of that cable as each join is generally setting up a higher electrical resistance than a straight cable run. Joined cable will also increase the 'cut off' rate as the possibility of momentary joint failure caused by movement is more likely. It is not certain that this is your problem, but worth a look. Also note that computer speed will be reduced if line connections are poor. Crackling phones are a fairly certain indicator that you have loose or poor connections, annoying on the phone but disastrous if also that iffy connection is also being used for a computer. Regards Maurice |

Val, ring BT and ask them to check for a fault on your line. We had a lot of crackling and dead lines when water got into underground cables. Val, when you say the phone is engaged when you pick it up - you have checked that there isnt a message on there on 1571 have you? |

sorry I gave up and did some gardening washing and had a lovely shower and hair wash now I am back in my nightie for a while I hope. Maurice thanks for that I dont have any joins in the line nothing its very close to the PC so there is not stretch going on either. I am at a loss. Heather we have one of those Cordless Phones where one base takes messages and we have another phone in another base. So we do have 1571 do you think thats what it is then??? |

Hi. Just a thought. Have you got your telephone plugged in via a filter gizmo? I just installed a wifi thingy and it said that high static (noisy) lines may need two filters. I don't know what this means because it doesn't effect me but someone may be able to advise. Roger GC |
