I have an ancestor living there in 1861. Does anyone know whereabouts it was please?

I can't help Louise, sorry, but if you come across Edinburgh Place, Islington while you're looking, can you let me know:)

louise If this is on a census, you can usually work out roughly where it was by seeing what streets were before and after it on the census pages. You could also google. nell

If you've got the census page, the ecclesiastical parish, the parliamentary ward etc info at the top should also help to narrow it down. There was an Albany Road in Islington, so chances are Albany Villas were on or very near it. nell

Nell's advice is worth trying Louise:) I'd forgotten about that and have just found whereabouts my Edinburgh Place was. If you look for the nearest street or road name on the census, you can try searching for it at http://www.motco(.)com/map/81006/ which has a street and road index - think the map is from 1861.

If you go to http://www.motco(.)com/MAP/81006/ (remove brackets) .....you will find Stanford's map of 1862. To the left is a Road and Street index. In other words, you can't look up Villas or Avenues etc, but if you identify a nearby Road or Street from the census page where you found Albany Villas, you can find that on the map and then explore the vicinity.
