Chris: I expect you mean Personal Ancestry File from the LDS site? Well, as it's a free download, there's no point in not giving it a try! As for tribalroots... well, it may be that you've just answered a question I was probably going to ask in a few weeks! Snowdrops: Thanks for thinking outside the box, but my machine has been upgraded as far as it can go... Can't fit an extra byte of memory in it! cheers! Gordon |

Just had another thought.... Have a look at Tribal Pages www.tribalpages(.)com remove brackets. You can opt for a free tree site or a range of paid options that gives you enhanced facilities. I have a tree on Tribal and find it very user friendly. Chris |

What about the one available through the LDS? Others on here seem to like it. www.familysearch.org click on order/download products. I have no idea as to whether it 'needs' more than what your computer offers to run it.....Total computer illiterate here :) I must admit I had to give in when my computer couldn't cope with what I wanted it to do and bought a 'cheap' laptop from Woolies. Credit card wasn't too happy about it though :)))) Chris |

Well, if you can tell me what lottery numbers will come up tomorrow, a new PC will be the first thing on my list! (after the rent, of course...) Gordon |

Might NOT be the suggestion you were looking for but why not treat yourself to new PC then you can run what you think best - I couldn't do without my PC, and try to keep fairly well upgraded - also this would give you an update on the system to a more modern operating system, i.e. XP and you will find all your searching much quicker - just a thought! My computer is too old to meet the requirements to run FTM, so I thought about looking for suitable software on the web... but there's hoards of it! Can anyone make any recommendations or, just as importantly, recommend ones to avoid! I'm running Windows 2000, but I only have 233MHz speed and 192Mb RAM. Cheers! Gordon |
