Emma, Merry is right, you really need the 1911 birth cert to cross check the marriage cert. I have had cases where the father doesn't match on the birth and marriage cert and without having purchased both i would have gone off in completely the wrong direction. Good Luck Fuzzy x

Its not even the money thats frustrating, its because every time you get another certificate you make a tiny step of progress and then have to order the next one and wait another week! I'm just so impatient!!!

I've just realised you don't have the 1911 birth cert. You will need this to be sure that the 1908 marriage record is the right one. Once you have the correct marriage cert for Daniel senr, you should be able to trace him with confidence before 1901. I know it can seem expensive to get back to 1901, but there have been others on this site who have spent months searching and paying for things, only to come back and get their grandfather's cert (or whatever) only to find it didn't say what they expected, meaning they have wasted months and maybe a lot of money on irrelevant research :o(( Merry

Only guessing that Daniel was born abt,1890 from date of birth of george. Don't know who he married or anything about where they lived at all so I'm struggling. Have ordered George's birth cert now, will just have to hang on for a week and see if that gives any more clues.

Remember that the ages given on the Census are not always right. Have you any other details that you could check - like profession, other people in the house, where he was born etc?? I have had census ages out by as much as 19years before now!!!

How do you know when Daniel was born (abt 1890)? If you get his marriage certificate, it should give you his age and his father's details, which should help you with the census records. Merry

There's a Daniel Hasler aged 8 in the 1891 who might be the one. He was born Good Easter, Essex. Parents Daniel and Elizabeth and Daniel senior is a blacksmith. Any good? Janice

I have just received a marriage certificate that I thought might have got me unstuck but I'm still in a pickle! It is my gt grandfather's marriage in 1933, he was born in 1911 and it lists his father as Daniel Hasler. I would have thought Daniel should be on the 1901 census at least but I can't find one where the ages match him. Any ideas?
