hiya, it looks like amorra, but like what has been said, it could well be mistrancribed from Alma, this was my mums name, and she used to get called allsorts especially if the person didnt understand the accent, perhaps this was the case with the enumerator??, she could have been registered as Female, and named later, and if she was called Alma, perhaps the first one did die, and she was named after her?? I call her Ammora, but I don't think that is her real name, since I can't find BMD for her anywhere. I hadn't thought of Alma - it seems a bit short for the scribble, but if the enumerator misheard, anything's possible. Unfortunately, there's a death entry for Alma Charlton, aged 0, in the same quarter as the birth. Thanks for your help, everyone. With any luck, I'll find out definitively when the 1911 census is available. Peter. |

Could be anything - it looks as though the enumerator's hand twitched while he was writing it. Ann nora? |

Could someone take a look in the 1901 census at RG13/4721/51/43 and tell me what on earth the name of the 6 year old daughter of Thomas and Elizabeth Charlton might be? Stumped, Peter. |
