Glen In Tinsel Knickers Report 27 Jul 2006 22:57

Local offices will often ask for the place of marriage (name of church) especially if they have several parishes within the district. Some local offices will search but quite a few won't,it depends how many marriage venues there are. Glen

thankyou for your help. It appeared to be an easy process seeing my cousin was close. I haven't ordered through the CRO as I don't have a credit card. thanks again Yvette

Local register offices do not recognise GRO references. Much better to apply direct to www.gro.gov.uk Reg

If she has the page and volume numbers, then you should apply to the GRO in Stockport (you can do this online). The page and volume numbers are of no use to the registry office as these are solely for GRO use. Kath. x

The local register offices won't recognise the GRO index references, but I would have thought they could find the marriage given the date? Why can't you order from the GRO?

The BMD refs don't apply to the local offices. For a marriage you have to know which church or if it was a register office, from the local office. If you have the ref, do it online from the GRO

My cousin has sent away to the Croydon Registry Office for a marriage certificate that states place of marriage as Croydon. She has done this for me as I live in Australia. We have the details - page, vol no. from BDM, but the office doesn't have it. Who does? Or where from here? She has applied twice. regards Yvette
