Is it possible to obtain copies of marriages certificates when couples were married in India and recorded on the Bengal Marr, Index? If so, how and where? I have several ancestors listed. Thank you

Try the Office of Indian and Oriental Collections at the British Library (Google OIOC) They were very helpful to me, and free, too.

How did you manage that Jim? Looking at their website the cost of £30 popped up for overseas search and cert !!!!! I emailed them last night as I have the entries from FIBIS and am holding my breath that it really won't cost that much as I have 2 that I need. Sylvia in NZ

Thank you both for your help. Sylvia, Please let me know how you get on, I have 4 marriages that I would like the certs for. I also visited the site and found the cost scary. Kim

Hi Kim I emailed the India Office last night and had a reply tonight. The cost is down to £18 per cert, presumably because I have all the details for what I want. I couldn't find any sort of order form / secure payment site on their website, so have emailed him back...will let you know what he says. Time to bite the bullet I think as I really need to know whats on the marriage certs. ******** OK just had reply from India Office...they do not have a secure site for payment but you can send them a cheque. It might pay you to email them and see what they say about your certs best of luck, Sylvia
