An Olde Crone

Geordie Did they marry by Banns or by licence? Either way, someone would have had to give permission for them to marry if both were Minors - the Banns book should have this information, if you can track down the Banns book! OC

Some complete swine of vicars (and I remember an Essex example being quoted) completely ignored instructions and behaved as if the old registers had never been scrapped. Bear in mind that the surname may have been mangled by either enumerator or transcriber. If you have a birthplace, have you looked there in 1841 for all young women of approximately the right age?

Jan , Yes i had noticed those 2 but unfortunatly they are not mine . Paul The idea of Jacob being Elizabeth,s second husband has crossed my mind as on the 1841 censusJacob is only 25 and Elizabeth is 35 ,only problem is i can,t find the marraige for them .to confirm or discard this theory . Cath

That would indicate that they didn't know their fathers..............possibly orphaned, or even abandoned by their parents............... Reg

Hazel , She could have been as you know the 1841 does not give any details but this does not give any clues to who her parents were Cath

The problem for you is that Essex were very unwilling to allow the LDS to have their records. I suspect you'll need to visit the relevant Records Office and search the parish records. The marriage cert should have the father's name and occupation..................do you have the cert? Reg
