Question about death certs

morning all. if a child died aged between 1-3 yrs in 1870's what info would i get off the cert??? would it say something like william son of anne/william ??? or would it just be son of anne?? it wouldnt give place of birth would it??? thanks julie

It would probably give you the father's name and occupation (in the Occupation box.......''Son of John Smith, carpenter'' or the like), but nothing about the mother unless she was a single parent. Merry

On my child's Death Cert. 1847 under 'occupation' it says - daughter of William Moore, Watchmaker. Her Mother's name is down only as informant. Hope this helps. Hazel

Oooh forgot the imformant! Watch out for wicked step mothers.......right at the start of doing my tree I got two children's death certs and each was registered by the ''mother'' but she was the step-mum! Merry

hiya, thanks all, would it still state name of father even if he had died? and the mother still alive?? i know the mother (Anne) remarried in 1876, and william the son wasnt on the 1881 census, with his sister, mother and step brothers, he was born in 1870 London, name 'william brown', have him on 1871 cen aged 6 months, but living in nottinghamshire with family, his dad william died in 1872, (vascular heart disease), this family are giving me a headache bigtime, need to find out though as they are my gt, gt, grandparents, so direct line, and to top it all anne the mother was irish, OH JOY!!! flummaxed!! hiya cheers lizzie, looks like i'm gonna 'HAVE' to bite the bullett, there are at least 6 possibles, likewise for his birth, (in london), i think there are about 8 on that one, hmmmn julie
