Armed with names/dates of baptisms and marriages I decended on the Essex Records Office in Chelmsford yesterday. Oh by the way, should you visit the Essex RO remember to take a cardigan as the air con in there can make it a little chilly, I only found one specific bit of info that I was looking for, but whilst trawling through I found my granddads sister and brothers baptisms, a few great aunts marriages, and used the time to become more familiar with the information housed there. Next time I go I think I will look up the history of my house as I was amazed at the amount of historical records they house there. I have had contact with the Bedfordshire RO as well as the Essex RO and both have staff that are Sooooooooo helpful, nothing seems to be any trouble to them. Not knowing how to work the copy machine, a staff member came over and gave me a detailed demonstration, and did not leave untill he was sure I knew how to work it. Sitting opposite from me were an elderly man and his wife/daughter, not sure which, but he was so loud and SOOOOO rude. He was blameing the RO for their info no being the same as his!!!!!!!!! How his wife/daughter kept their cool I do not know. In the end he said he had 'come all this way, and for what, I`ll not waste my time comeing here again'. Thank goodness was my silent reply!!!!!!! Kathlyn The only thing with this research is time vanishes out of the window. I have to leave at 2.45pm as the bus home is at 3.11pm, and if I miss this one I have to wait until 6pm.
