The occupation given on the marriage certificate of my gt(5) grandfather is 'soldier'. This was in 1812 in Bristol. Where can I find out which regiment he was in? Thanks in advance. Patricia |

Do you know his full name, rough date of birth and place of birth? If you do, he might show up on the PROCAT catalogue on The National Archives website. If your not sure about using it, post the above details here! (if you know them, that is!) Merry |

Thanks Merry. Name, Joseph Sale, born 1879 Bristol. Married Ann Dickenson 20 Sep 1812. Died 1871 in Lancashire. On the baptism certificate of his son Benjamin in Feb 1814 his place of abode was St. Paul and occupation was soldier. Patricia |
