But someone has to ask!...I would like to go and see Gx2Uncle's grave but...I know what Town he was buried in but no idea which graveyard... does anyone/where hold grave records before I go trawling through 4 graveyards on a hot day!! The soldier ones are easyish to trace but the public ones are impossible. Jenx |

Jen, If you know the name and which Town he was buried, you probably know roughly the date? - Could you not telephone the seperate Cemeteries and ask if they have him? Most Cemeteries hold records, usually on Computer nowadays, I am sure they could have a look and see if he is with them. They can then usually tell you which grave No. etc. so that you can find him when you arrive. You will never find him if you just trawl around them all. Dea x |

Churchyard burials will be in parish burial registers, generally in the county records office. Cemeteries & crematoria - contact details usually on the relevant council website. Even with a grave number it is sometimes a fruitless journey. Husband's gt grandmother's final resting place is a grassed area surrounded by other graves. No indication anyone was ever buried there. nell |

Its a long shot, as I never find the people I am looking for, but if you want to send me the details, I can check on the National Burial Index for you. Carole |

I find a lot of my rellies on this website, thanks to the vicar who put them on his website. Worth a try - remove the brackets first. www(.)framland.pwp.blueyonder(.)co(.)uk/ Jo |

Thank you Michael, Dea ,Nell and Carole for your sympathetic help, My rellie John William Jones died Q1,1893 aged approx 21, I am waiting for his death cert but legend has it he died of hairs on his chest !!!! and so I can't wait for this one! His birth was registered at Prescot but he was born and presumably died in Widnes - then Lancs. I will, as you have suggested contact the local cemetaries but I believe that one was built over a number of years ago - however as you say I am sure I will be able to get that information from the local council - I can't believe I didnt think of it before! Once again thank you for your advice Jen :0)) |

Died of hairs on his chest? I think this warrants a thread of its own. Maybe some clever GR member will make sense of that. Could it be infected hair follicles? Without antibiotics I suppose something like that could spread. Intriguing. |

It was hairs and not hares wasn't it? A few of those on your chest might make breathing very difficult. Good luck with the search, do let us know what the certificate says won't you? |

Paul and Sue :0))))))) - he was a 'hairdresser' apparently which must have been an odd job in the late 1800's in a small town full of labourers don't you think! and Yes... I will keep you updated..... I just assumed he had TB or something but because of his job the family blamed the hairs! and Jane - yes it is a good site isn't it and it connects you to lots of others too that I might of missed otherwise so thanks again Jo. Enjoy your day everyone Jen |

As I feared, there was nothing on the NBI for your rellie, sorry. I'm glad I put a message on this thread though - as I am intrigued by the hairs on his chest! I am looking forward to hearing what you find out! Carole |
