From Ancestry Extended Description: This database contains family trees submitted to Ancestry by users who have indicated that their tree can only be viewed by Ancestry members to whom they have granted permission to see their tree. These trees can change over time as users edit, remove, or otherwise modify the data in their trees. If you would like to view one of these trees in its entirety, you can contact the owner of the tree to request permission to see the tree. Note: These trees are voluntarily submitted by Ancestry users like yourself. We take all tree data 'as is' and cannot guarantee the completeness, accuracy, or timeliness of the information contained in this database. We regret we cannot assist you in your personal research or prevent duplication of data. Our goal is to provide this user-contributed data to aid you in finding and/or correcting your family information I entered in a surname with parents full names in parents boxes approx year of birth and place pressed search This gave me loads of options some listed below Reid1 Personal Member Tree Ida Sailor Birth: 13 Nov 1880 Reid1 Personal Member Tree Nellie Marcella Sailor Birth: 4 Feb 1876 Reid Personal Member Tree Ida Sailor Birth: 13 Nov 1880 Reid Personal Member Tree Nellie Marcella Sailor Birth: 4 Feb 1876 Salmon family tree Personal Member Tree John Elmer Salmon Birth: 2 Nov 1885 Salmon family tree Personal Member Tree Joseph Troxel Birth: 6 Oct 1797 Gant Family Tree Personal Member Tree Andrew Weed Birth: 11 Mar 1764 Hulet Family Tree Jul 2006 Personal Member Tree Henry Russell Birth: 24 JUL 1820 Salmon family tree Personal Member Tree Ruby_Lacy McGuire Salmon family tree Personal Member Tree Susanna Moser Gant Family Tree Personal Member Tree Isabella McGraw Birth: 1778 Gant Family Tree Personal Member Tree Martha (Messer?) Thanks for the reply i am still playing with it - have found this though which virtually explains it Question What is the connection service, and how does it work? Answer Ancestry's connection service has been implemented by Ancestry to allow registered users to communicate with one another about common interests in family history, local history, and topics related to those services. It should not be used for any other purpose. The connection service can be reached by following these simple steps: Click the tab at the top of most pages on Ancestry Locate the MEMBER CONNECTIONS section, found in the upper right corner of the next page. Click the »View all connections now link within this section Under the MEMBER CONNECTIONS & CONNECTIONS SERVICE section on the right, you will see a Learn more about the connection service link at the bottom. This link simply refers you to this Knowledge Base article. Following are answers to some common questions users may have about this service. How does Ancestry's connection service protect my privacy? This service allows you to keep your email address private, in case you do not know the people you contact. The connection service also helps protect your email address from malicious activities. Certain programs, called spiders, 'crawl' websites and 'harvest' information found there to develop email lists for unsolicited commercial email, etc. This activity is severely hampered by keeping email addresses privatized. How can other users of Ancestry's connection service contact me? Your username will appear in place of a name or email address, which will be associated with your activities and postings on Ancestry. When other members see your username, they can also contact you anonymously using the connection service. The service provides a form on the website where another member can compose and send a message to you. The message will be sent to the email address we have on file for you. How do I reply to a message that comes through the connection service? You can reply to a message that comes through the connection service in the same way you would reply to other email that you receive. When you reply, your message will go to the connection service and the service will pass it along to the Ancestry member who contacted you with only your username to identify you. IMPORTANT: Many email programs copy the original message into a reply message. In some cases, these programs will include the user’s actual name or email address in the copied text. If your email program does this and you would like to remain anonymous, you will need to delete your name from the copied message before you send your reply. What kinds of activities does the connection service use to connect people? Categories of activities that the connection service uses to find people you might be interested in contacting include: Things you add or post to the site. These may include such content as: things in your tree(s); comments and corrections you make in OneWorldTreeSM, on records and images, etc.; your public profile; and records you link to a person in OneWorldTreeSM. Your research activities on the site. These may include records you save in your Shoebox and Favorites you add on the site (under your account). What do I do if my email address changes? The connection service allows you to update your email address and not loose contact opportunities with other researchers on our site. Simply update your email address in the My Account section of the site and the connection service will begin sending messages to your new address. Instructions for updating your email address can be found by clicking here. How can I stop receiving messages from a specific user? If you enroll in the connection service, you therefore will be able to both send and receive anonymous messages as described. You may also choose to block communications from certain members by adding them to a Block List. The listed senders will not be notified by Ancestry that they have been blocked. What do I do if I no longer want to participate in Ancestry’s connection service? If you so choose, you may also opt out of the connection service. If you choose to opt out, you will not be able to receive or send messages through the service. The Block List and connection options can be found in My Site Preferences of your area. For information about changing your preferences for Ancestry communications in general, please click here. How can I report abuses of Ancestry's connection service? You may notify Ancestry of abuses of the connection service via a link at the bottom of messages you receive through this service. MyFamily.com, Inc., will respond to such abuse reports as it deems appropriate. So I assume that anyone who has any of the names I plugged in will come up. A bit like 'Hot Matches' on here |
