I managed to get to speak to my gran today about where my grandad used to live. She has always told me that he lived in Boston all his life well now i think she knows that i have realised this is not true so has told me she has remembered he worked as a merinition i think this is where they built bombs but not 100% sure. Is there anyway i could find out where these bases were. I know for definate that there was one in Grantham my grandma said it might of been Stamford, but i would need to know for sure to give me a better idea of where my mums brother may have been born. Thanks Jen |

Have you found your grandfather's first marriage yet? I think the word you mean is ''munitions'' Merry |

Thanks merry i googled it and couldn't think how to spell it properly. I haven't found a 1st marriage yet, but am thinking that i know when he met my gran and he lived at home for 2 years before he met my gran, so if i can find where the places are then this could narrow it down a little for me! Am i thinking on the right tracks. I went to my library today but i could only use the Kellys directory for 15 minutes as somebody had booked an appointment with it. It took me about 15 minutes just to flick through it i didn't even work it out, so hav booked my appointment with the book next week. My gran also told me that he was in the Navy and rescued people that had been shot down in there planes in his ship. Thanks Jen |

There were munitions factories all over the place during the world wars. Try googling 'munitions factories Lincolnshire' or contact Lincolnshire archives. nell |

Merry my gran thinks that he used to work in Stamford. I have found a marriage in Salford this is could be what my gran mean't but this would of made my grandad 16 would this be to young? I also found a marriage for Ralph D Williams (my grandad had Donovan for a middle name) he married a Lowe in 1946 this would of made him about 25. I am going to try and search for a Colin with the mothers maiden name being Lowe and see what i get from this. Jen |

16 is an age at which people could marry, with parental consent. But I think it unlikely anyone could mistake Salford - now part of Greater Manchester - with Stamford in Lincolnshire. They don't sound the same even with a northern accent! |

16 isn't too young, but probably the other marriage is more likely..... Merry |

Thanks Helen i think the one in Lincolnshire sounds more like it as my gran said it wasn't in a big city and Manchester is a big place. I think i will search into the Lowe marriage and see what the outcome of this is. Thanks Jen |
