Sent for a birth certificate from the GRO and they sent the wrong one. I checked my number and it was correct...... I emailed them and explained what they had done and I have just had an email back asking me to post back the certificate with a covering letter and they will 'investigate it further'. I asked for 1841 Dec. Shoreditch 2 404 Ref. Check Father Henry...and I got.. 1841 Shoreditch 2 405 father Benjamin. I printed off my order so I know I am right. Are they normally so disbelieving? Hmmmm I would have thought this would make it easy for them to find your original application. I could understand if they had to look for a letter you had written or info taken from you over the phone. I expect they have people who try to pull strings.....realised they have asked for the wrong cert and try to say it's just the wrong one that was sent. Could you try phoning again (you will probably get a different person) and ask the same again.....see what they say.....you might get a different response. Maybe if you ask if they are able to check what you asked for, BEFORE you go on to say what the problem is!! Merry |

Thanks Merry. Yes I'll try phoning tomorrow. I gave them my reference number so they only had to check against the certificate. Seems a bit stange saying they will 'investigate it further' Linda |

I ordered a cert and asked for Vol 60 and they crossed it through and sent me 62. I wrote to them and they have admitted their mistake. But I have an on going saga with them and still waiting for the outcome. So I would say write to them I telephoned and they were not very helpful just told me to wait for a reply to my letter. Gwen |

Thanks Gwen It's so annoying. Why did it have to happen with THIS certificate. It's a 'brick wall' one. Oh well never mind. Hope the waiting will be worth it !!! Linda |
