Two different names for same person on Scrolls of

I have an Uncle who used a false Surname to join up in 1939 I have found his Scroll on the CWGC site under his assumed name but on 1837 its under his real name how would that work then??? |

hi yes I know that but one scroll says his right name the other says his false name where would they have got their info from, surely the same place. |

Valerie If his name was Fred Bloggs really, and there were 15 other men called Fred Bloggs, often they changed their names for a matter of convenience, often on the instructions of their 'boss', nothing else! When I was at school, we had six Maureens in my class.The five younger ones were all called by their second names at school - the teachers arranged this. OC |

Hi Valerie I think I am right in saying that you are looking at two different records, compiled in different ways. The CWGC site would be based on army info, so would contain the false name. I believe the 1837 site has info collected from sending out to rellies for details (if I'm wrong on this, or got it the wrong way round, someone please correct me!) |

ah Pheonix that would expain it as I have copies of letters sent to his parents with the right name. wonder where they got their info from thanks for that. |
