Hi Tom, Yes occupations from PRs has helped me sort out two William & Hannah families but the entries are not always consistent. Maybe there was a change of vicar & data was entered differently. G |

Thanks Heather & Merry, Yes I agree!! I was wondering if I had missed a useful technique for sorting them out!! My eyes are going funny looking at all the data! G |

I think your best bet would be to actually look at the original parish entries - this may give you a clue as to where they were living and the father's occupation. |

Thanks Jess & Georgina, Most of them are born before 1837 so cannot use certs for births. I am trying to link IGI births& marriages with family groups in census but as I have a number of parents with the same first names (William & Hannah) it can be a bit tricky to sort out who is who. G |

Well, its a hard job as most of us have the same problem before registration. You will have to get certificates for those after 1837 to tie them into a father and mother. Before registration you need to check through the parish records to see a baptism, tie that hopefully to a father and mother and work backwards looking for the parents marriage. Its a long old job but well worth it to get it correct. |

Yes, either visit the local Record Office or hire out the films of the Parish Registers via your local LDS centre. Once you have the burial records as well as the births and marriages, plus the extra info given in the PR's that isn't shown on the IGI , it is often possible to sort out more families than without this info. merry |

certs to confirm who is who's parents is a good start. what do you have , say 1901 , that you are certain are yours? |

Gilliam if they fall within the census years I always cross check births with census info to find out which children belong to which parents. Georgina. |

Hello All, I have a large number of Dover families living in the same area. In order to sort out who is who, I have been trying to group them into families using census and IGI data. This is not easy as they all like using the same first names so there is an abondance of Williams, Hannahs, Thomas' etc!! Any tips to sort them out? Thanks, Gillian |
