Hi all, I apologise for the delay, I have been chasing up another relly. Where do I start, I have since found out, (from my wife, bless her,.... or something), that this aunt, in her later years, lived in sheltered housing. This was in Rownhams, just down the road from Romsey. She remembers visiting aunt Ann with my mother, (now deceased), in the very early ninties. I can see that if Ann had to be hospitalised, Romsey hospital was as close as the General hospital in Southampton, and less busy. I assume that she died in the Romsey Hospital. So on this basis I am 'pencilling in' the Ann Moore that died in July 1994 and will apply for the certificate. I remember going to her funeral, the service was at St. James Church, Shirley. She was buried in the old Southampton Cemetery, just off of Hill Lane , but for the life of me I could not remember when it occurred. Many, many thanks to all that responded. I guess the lesson learnt today is :- There is no real substitute for a certificate. Cheers to you all, happy searching. Regards, Mick.

How about applying to Romsey RO and saying you only want the cert if it has the right maiden name on it?? Hayter House, Hayter Gardens, Romsey, SO51 7QU. Tel: 01794 513846. Merry

Another point. With 'late' birth registrations an incorrect date was sometimes given to avoid getting into trouble so the date on the death cert can be right and the birth cert wrong ! The death cert from 1994 will have the maiden name on though. Bob

It is possible that she died between 2004 and 2006 (these records aren't online. Also, do not discount a remarriage, if she was widowed she may very well have got remarried, I have ancestors who remarried in their 50s and +60s.

Don't know if you knew this aunt well enough to discount the following but some further suggestions: a) Ann could still be alive b) She could have died between 1983 and now - have you checked the computerised records of more recent deaths.. Second thoughts- as you have a date of birth on the entry you found this must have been a post 1983 entry :-) c) She could have moved after marriage and/or been visiting another part of the country when she died d) She could have died in Scotland or overseas

Michael - another point to remember is that the dob on death certs is often unreliable - depends on how well the informant knew the deceased!

All the BMD indexes are available on Ancestry now, for free. No need to bother with 1837online any more!

Morning Rowena, I,m not a member of 1837 on-line. I tried it a couple of years ago, wasted all the credits that I had bought just trying to get onto the pages. Regards, Mick.

Birth registrations could be up to 6 weeks after the actual birth. Therefore, it is (just) possible for someone born on 15th May to be registered in the Jul-Aug-Sep quarter, if they were a few days late with the registration. The only way to be sure is to buy the birth cert for Ann Davie and see what her d.o.b. was! Richard

Have you tried 1837online? There records are from the actual records. The 1837online is a very good source.

Good morning folks, First the facts :- (from Ancestry), Ann Davie. born third quarter 1908, South Stoneham. (Southampton). Married Percy Moore, third quarter 1925, at Southampton. BUT.... I can find no record of her death. I have been through every quarter from 1970 to 1983, (Ancestry), (three times),.....nothing shown about an Ann or Annie Moore dying in or around Southampton. EXCEPT for an Annie Moore that died at Romsey, (on the outskirts of Southampton), but her birth date is given as 15th May 1908. (The second quarter). I can find no record of this Ann,s birth in or around Southampton. SO, ....The question. Would you be inclined to think that the 'Romsey' Ann Moore is my aunt and somehow the birth date is wrong. OR, could she be 'missing' from the register. I do not think that she ever had more than the one marriage, so a change of name is out. Over to you folks, sorry to start your day off with this one. Regards, Mick Davie.
