My great aunt died in Jan 1978. I know she left a will and I know who the money went to. Does anyone know if the NPC entries for 1978 state the value of the estate? I know they did in some Victorian years, but have never investigated one this recent. Merry xx

I looked up an early 20th century entry which did have the value. The Courts service website says this, which seems to show that yes the value is still gien on recent entries: 'The amount of information given in the calendars has changed slightly over the years, but every entry will include the following details: full name and last address the date of death the type of grant issued the Registry at which the grant issued and the date of issue >the gross value of the estate < The calendars include all grants issued throughout England and Wales.'

Thank you Judith!!! Prepare for mutiny in the Montgomery household!!! Every week my mum comes round here spouting that she has ''never inherited any money from anyone''......followed each time by me saying, ''Well, except for aunt X''........mum says, ''Oh that was nothing''!! But I'm SURE is was more than nothing!!! lol (lol will probably keep my trap shut in the end, but it's nice to be sure of one's facts!!) Merry x

:-) This set me off on a search - as it reminded me of the time I inherited a couple of keepsakes from mum's cousin's will. Her neice, my second cousin, was the main beneficiary. Her address was on the will, I've just checked on 192 and she's still at same address. I really must write to her in the hope of sharing family history (the will was 12 years ago so I don't THINK she will suspect me of gold digging!)
