Having just read the thread on new search options I searched for John Dudley, England, Warwickshire on the main search page. (see below) |

It came up with 18 Elizabeth Dudleys! So I clicked on Refine Search and put in Foleshill, Warwickshire, and it then came up with Johns. When I tried to View family it showed me a totally spurious Dudley family that didn't even have a John, and weren't in Warwickshire! |

Nichola, You don't have any elusive Dudleys in Foleshill do you? Mark |

I never use ranked searches. I prefer to use exact search and use wild cards. Margaret |

I'm glad its not just me then! Just searched for Jesse Dudley of Foleshill in the 1871 census. It gave me two references to the same Jesse, but one was listed as born in Foleshill (which he was), and the other as born in Birmingham (which he wasn't!) I think it is because the transcriber has crossed out a ditto entry in an unrelated entry above and has written Birmingham, so Ancestry now think Jesse was born in Brum! It is going to make life very difficult I fear! Mark |

Happening to me now and giving me people all unrelated and all over the place! Do you think it's contagious? M O G |

Are all these ''problems'' only occurring on the Ranked Results?? Merry |

hiya Ann to do a wildcard search, you have to have at least 3 letters in search box, ie Jones would be Jon**, and a first name the same, elizabeth would be eliz***** the star represents each letter, i have always found this to work, likewise if you just put surname, DOB and place you will get some results, but obviously if you just put first name, you will get bombarded, unless its really unusual HTH Julie |

I can't find anything wrong...... Does anyone want to give me EXACT instructions for what they entered and I'll see what I get as results? Merry |
