Fire at Standard Fireworks c1940

Hello, I am trying to find out about my distant cousin who apparently died during a fire at Standard Fireworks c 1940. She reportedly got out alive, but went back to save a friend. I cannot find a death registration for her, nor an obvious marriage so that she would be registered under a different name. Has anyone come across this in their own research and found out anything about it. I was tempted to phone the company, but not really the thing to do. Her name is Gladys Hanson. born sometime after 1903 in Huddersfield to parents John Hanson and Martha Ann (nee Fisher). |

cannot find her death either so maybe she was married , I would ring the factory what harm can it do ???You never know |

Google for any reports on it. 1940? Would they have been making fireworks or would the factory be used for munitions works then? |

Hello, I saw that death too, but Standards Fireworks are, and always have been in Yorkshire. I believe they have always made fireworks, even in the 1940s. I may call them, just need to pluck up the courage. Dont want them to take offence - 'a fire in your factory killed my relative' - I know its from a long time ago, oh what the hell. let me find the number. . . . |

Hi, I just googled Standard Fireworks History and brought up a website with photos and everything AND it said that in the war they changed to producing munitions - have a look at the site, some good pics for you to add to your tree. |

The BBC War memories site has a couple of peeps talking about the StandardFireworks (no mention of a fire though). Here is one bloke: December 1942- nearly 16 years of age and can work in school holidays delivering mail for the Post Office in the Milnsbridge and Manchester Road area. Luckily I was supposed to deliver near Standard Fireworks as they made and tested parachute flares. I could pick the parachutes up and mother made large handkerchiefs out |

You could try the gentleman who has this site http://www*cyber-heritage*co*uk/ As well as having lots of history items and photos he also seems to have an interest in fireworks and from his message is really open to people getting in touch. |

Do you think the date might be wrong?? There was a fire in July 1939 reported in The Times but the only death was a Wilfred Row aged 33. The Daventry death can't be the one because Daventry is in Northamptonshire. Merry |
