Marriied Dec 1856, father of Agnes 1859 named at christening 1866 then presumablyy abducted by aliens.(not found on ANY census). Peter you have lost me on this one, I want to give up already & I dont even know the family. Margaret is still with her sister in 1901 so I take it you are trying to find her birth details? Georgina.

Roger in Sussex

Roger in Sussex Report 25 Jul 2006 07:38

Peter, Brading is on the Isle of Wight, quite a likely place for Ann to have had a seaside lodging house. Only one visitor, but then census was 3 April in 1881, a bit early in the season, two weeks before Easter that year. One oddity about the census entry, no Brighton in Essex as far as I know (perhaps someone else knows better!), the best known Brighton is in Sussex. Might be worth trying for 1881ish directories of Hampshire/IOW, as she might be mentioned, and it could give you an idea of how long they were there. You really need someonewho knows the IOW better, perhaps there is someone on this board? Hope that may fit in with something you know and give you a clue. Roger

Agnes Ann NURSE was born 13 May 1853 in Colchester, illegitimate daughter of Sarah Ann Nurse. 1856 – Sarah married Gustav Adolph KRAFFT in Colchester (he is NOT Agnes’ father) 1861 Agnes is with her mother half Siblings James Richard (father NOT Gustav) and Agnes Sarah b 1859 (yes I know they have the same name – it happened in the previous generation too, just to confuse me. In 1881 they are in Brading Hants as Ann(52) CROFT(she is Sarah Ann!!), Anne(24)CROFT and Agnes(21)CROFT (so, they lie a little about their ages. By 1881 Agnes has Married Robert Millerscent SCARR and is living in Herne Hill, S. London (she married as Agnes KRAFFT) In 1891 Margaret Ann (unmarried) is her younger sister’s housekeeper. I know Sarah Ann died 1895, Agnes Scarr died 1944 in Totnes How do I trace Margaret Ann aka Agnes Ann aka Anne with surnames of Croft/Krafft????? Peter
