on the 1881 census I have an Eliza Jennings Head age 40 born Middlesex as a Grocer, with her daughter Gertrude age 2 months born Islington her sister Rebecca Keen age 32 born City of London another sister Anne E Wallis age 24 born City of London their mother Elizabeth Wallis age 70 born City of London no husband in sight for Eliza I got Gertrudes birth cert which has a William Jennings down as the father, occupation Butler , but cannot find a marriage, or them together on any census unless I am missing something, would you say its possible they were never married???thanks

A butler would often live in so could well be with his employer on census night Beth :)

I did wonder about that, would he have lived completely seperate from his family then???? Would you say it would have been quite close by to where the Wife was ??? as I dont know when he was born I am going to have trouble finding out more .

1879 Q3 marriage in Pancras district 1b page 214 Eliza Keen (was mum married twice, to Mr Keen then Mr Wallis?) William Jennings Other two names were Rosina Salt and Charles Wickman, if we can find Mrs Rosina Wickman in 1881 then I'd say this was your marriage and William was off butling on census night.

you lot are amazing thanks so much, yes that looks like him butling, and yes she was married before to a Keen I dont know how I missed the marriage I feel such a fool thank you so much off to order the marriage cert now Thanks again kissy kissy kissy

thanks Fuzzy yes sometimes we are looking for the wrong details arent we???. I hope the Cert comes quicker than the ones I have despatch date the 21st for, one arrived today still got about 7 to come though.They said they have caught up, dont think so !!!!
