Does anyone know anything about 'patron sheets' in the IGI? (see below) |

I think I’ve found a number of my ancestors in IGI Batch Number 7631030. When I click on the source call number for a description it says these are “patron sheets”. According to the LDS site these patron sheets are forms submitted by members of the LDS Church. Yet they look very much like parish records, and you can search for all the children of same mother and father as you can in the parish records. So I did a search leaving the name blank, to get everything in batch number 7631030 and it gives 124 records (christenings, marriages and deaths) for Little Paxton and Southoe in Huntingdonshire. The surname I’m looking for is Parish, in Little Paxton. Yet looking up Parish in the Little Paxton christenings through Hugh Wallis’ site gives no results at all. Does anyone know anything more about these patron sheets? Could be just that all this person's ancestors came from Little Paxton and Southoe. Strange that my Parish family appear in this record and not in the IGI christenings for Little Paxton. Thanks, Sarah |

It means that someone has uploaded their research onto the LDS . It should be taken cautiously cos we all have gone down a wrong road sometimes & don't know how verified the records were by the submitter. I've found errors where siblings were added as children of my grt grandad cos both him & his father had the same christian name. |

Thanks Shirley. Yes, I know it means it's member-submitted info and I do always treat such info with caution, in fact don't use it at all except maybe as a guide for dates/places to look up elsewhere. I just got all excited when I found this whole Parish family in the IGI, batch number and all, only to be disappointed when I realised it was member-submitted. And I find it very strange that none of the Parish family are in the IGI parish records for Little Paxton, which according to both Hugh Wallis' site and the LDS site should cover Christenings from 1567-1877 (actually according to LDS up to 1884). Wonder where the person who submitted this got their info! |
