Importing a Gedcom file into GR - problems

I'm on my 4th attempt to import a gedcom, created in FTM2005 into GR. For the first 3 times it said error - and I did email GR support but i won't hear back from them till tomorrow at the earliest I tried almost an hour ago for a 4th time and it has come up with the pop-up window saying 'Please don't close this window whilst the upload is taking place'. How do i know it is working? There are about 400+ people in the tree to import in and replace my original tree. When I want to switch my computer off soon (as i'm getting tired and don't want to stay up for hours tonight!), what will happen? Will it stop my tree importing or would the data have already been sent to GR's server by now?! Thanks Claire

400 names shouldn't take long (I assume you have a broadband connection). If you can see the lights on your modem it will be flashing while data is being uploaded. Until the pop-up window tells you the import has been completed (and your modem stops flashing) you can assume the import hasn't completed. BUT sometimes it does upload correctly despite all this! I had a problem a few weeks ago - FTM managed to produce a defective GEDCOM which GR rejected. I amended an entry in FTM, changed it back again and made a fresh GEDCOM which then loaded OK..

Thanks for replying - I'll go and have a look at the modem - yes we are on broadband - would not be without it now! If not i'll try again - just wondering how I'd know which entry would have corrupted the file? it may be that I've got my middle name in this one that i'm importing and my board name/account name is just Claire Ede - perhaps if I try again and take out my middle name? Thanks for your help. Claire
