Hi Elizabeth None of Devon's original records are on the IGI. In all cases, the entries have been taken from transcripts, I think the ones in the west country studies library in Exeter. The quality of those trancripts was very good, but they were handwritten rather than typed, so additional errors have crept in. If you search the catalogue section of familysearch for a Devon parish, you should see that the records are from a transcript. I don't have the good fortune to live in Devon, but some of my ancestors lived in Diptford from the tudor period up to the late 1700s. Devon parish registers are on fiche. It may well be possible to purchase a copy if you think your ancestors were there for any period of time. What the LDS does have is a copy of the Land Tax assessments. If your people owned or occupied land in Diptford, you can use this to follow them through time, seeing where one died and another succeeded to the property, or if they acquired or lost property over time. Good luck! |

Thank you both. I have tried those, just wondering why Diptford seems to be missing, but obviously it hasn't been transcibed for whatever reason. Maybe I shoud offer to do it. I'm really scared of all those submitted entries. |

Hi Elizabeth, I just googled Diptford,Devon. Click on Genuki for that area, lots of info comes up, including where records are kept. also some info on 1841 census. You might have already tried that though. Just a thought,in case you hadn't. regards Trish |

Can anyone tell me if parish records for Diptford,Devon are under another name on Hugh Wallis. I can't find on Genuki that it was ever called anything else. Family search has some, but they are all submitted. Would it just be that they are not transcribed yet? Thanks. |
