Tracey: I can't get it to work now (don't know if it's my computer, or Rootsweb), but there are at least three people who mention Alfred Hounsome, born c1854. http://wc.rootsweb*com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi (replace * with .) |

The Ontario Genealogical Society have the ONTARIO 1871 census on the Collections Canada site, but it is only head of household..the rootsweb mailing list is great because there are people on there who have access to the whole census and can tell you who was in the rest of the household: http://lists.rootsweb(.)com/index/intl/CAN/CAN-ONT-CENSUS-1871.html I think this may be your man too found at this site: http://www.islandnet(.)com/ocfa/ HOUNSOME Alfred Eastlawn Wentworth Hamilton HM-224 Hope all of this helps Barbara |

Hi Tracey Sorry to advise that immigration records to Canada for the period you want do not seem to be searchable on line. www collectionscanada.ca, go to Canadian Genealogy then take the database tab. They are finally getting some record released but they are very scant to date and do not cover period prior to 1925 (unless they landed in grosse isle) Hopefully one day soon the Canadian Gov't will take a hint and get it together as far as releasing records go. Alternately do you have any idea where they went to? Most provinces do have genealogy sites (some much better than others). You could try googling the province you want Sue in Canada |

Tracey: did you find them on the 1911 census? If your Alfred was born in 1854, he is shown on the 1911 as arriving in 1872. I don't know of any website where you can find the ship he sailed on, besides the possibility of inGeneas. (Note: dates are sometimes incorrect on the 1911 census.) 1911 and 1901 census: http://automatedgenealogy*com/index.html (replace * with .) Perhaps you have this: 019856-10 (Simcoe Co.) Charles Henry HOUNSOME , 31, farmer, West Gwillimbury, parents - Alfred HOUNSOME, farmer, & Elizabeth GIBBS married Mabel Eunice CARR, 27, Essa, parents - Joseph Henry CARR, farmer, & Sarah Elizabeth EAST, witn; Mamie McGEE of Hamilton & George CARR of Cookstown, Feb. 2, 1910 at Cookstown There are two other marriages for Hounsome: http://homepages.rootsweb*com/~maryc/thisisit.htm (replace *) If you are interested in other facts about the Hounsome's, I found a few things trying google searches with words like 'Hounsome Midland' 'Hounsome Ontario', Gwillimbury, Simcoe, Ontario, etc. |

Tracey, he possibly arrived in 1873 (http://www*ingeneas*com/ingeneas/index.html) (replace * with .): Your search returned 2 records. Record # Surname Given Name Born Circa Year of Record Source 963723 Hounsome Alf. n/a 1873 Immigration Record 172255 HOUNSOME James 1858 1886 Passenger Record Details: Alf. Hounsome Age: Not available Year: 1873 Price: $6.50US; $7.47Cdn. Description: TORONTO EMIGRANT OFFICE assisted immigration register (volume 2: 1871-1877). Typical records within this group contain the following information: date of application [at office]; name of head of party; nationality; breakdown of party by age groupings; usually name of ship on which party travelled to Canada and name of Canadian port at which the ship landed; destination of party. I have used inGeneas website in the past. It is costly to order the records, and some records don't contain all of the information, but I think it is an excellant site and I 'trust' it. I don't know who else would have his (free) arrival information. Perhaps another member might know. |
