for a few weeks now I have had problems accessing Ancestry, most of the time I get a blank(white) page. An earlier response to a similar enquiry recommended deleting cookies and restarting computer but should I have to do this every time I want to get into Ancestry? (It is the only site I seem to have problems accessing) |

You could try by restarting your computer to an earlier date when you were not having problems |

I dont think a virus would be present on just one site. Its obviously something to do with them recognising you - why dont you give them a ring? |

A lot of people seem to be having the same trouble today - it's been mentioned on other threads. Presumably it's an Ancestry problem. |

thanks for your replies it seems that I can access Ancestry if I clear cookies and reboot but as soon as I go to another site I cannot get back again |

Perhaps changing the settings as I mention below will help....should be done, regardless, so can't hurt making the changes! Judy From my '1 Stop' thread: Fixing “Website Can’t Be Found” and other Site Error Messages More than likely you have trouble with accessing quite a few sites.....particularly getting the message 'website can't be found' among a few other error messages. Try the following and it should solve your problem. 1. Go to START. 2. Click on CONTROL PANEL. 3. Click on INTERNET OPTIONS. 4. Change NUMBER OF DAYS TO KEEP IN HISTORY to “0” and click APPLY 5. A box appears with tabs labeled across the top. Click on ADVANCED. 6. Scroll down to the sub-heading SECURITY. 7. Make sure the following has check marks next to it: Use USE SSL 2.0, USE SSL 3.0 and USE TLS 1.0. 8. Also make sure you check off EMPTY TEMPORARY INTERNET FILE WHEN BROWSER IS CLOSED. More than likely USE TLS 1.0 is not checked of and it should be. This will give you the error messages, as well as a few others, that will prevent you from viewing web sites and the error you are getting. Make sure you empty your cookies cache as well as temporary internet files once in a while, too, as this slows down your computer and these folders tend to 'remember' the errors and may continue to bring them up. |

Thanks Judy I will try that immediately with regard to the deleting of tif, is it possible that AVG or another prog. is doing this for me, I used to delete tifs but recently (3/4 months?) every time I look for them the file is empty --------------------------------------------------------- as you expected TLS 1.0 was unchecked Thanks again |
