I have the surname scrace in my family tree which i have traced back to John Scrase in Patcham Sussex born approx 1800 in the 1841 census. Did some digging on Google and came up with a genealogical paper www.scrase.org. Fantastic! or so I thought! all the scrase family originate from Patcham , but I cant find any link to this piece of research. Can any one help me , or am I hoping for a link that just isnt there? Would be grateful for any advice! Thanks Claire |

Sorry to confuse! I thought the website that I have would link to my Scrase family but it hasn't as far as I can see. According to the website the name Scrase originates from Patcham, so there should be a link, shouldn't there? Claire |

Well, they were big families and it may just be that the connection doesnt show yet. I have the same with the Bonifaces of Sussex - thousands of them crammed into an area of about 10 miles yet I cant tie my lot in with those around - probably goes back before parish records. If your lot are in Sussex there is a brilliant site, which unfortunately the addy of which I lost when my hard drive crashed last week. But try googling Sussex Poor Laws. I found a dozen of mine on that under the Settlement Orders section, click on the name, click on the ref and it gives actual details. Brilliant. |
