My three x grt grandfather William Proctor (er) born 1799 marries Ann Alcock in Fulford Staffs on Dec 29th 1822. There son William is baptised on what looks like Nov 30th 1823 in S-o-t.Now i have come across another marridge for a William back in Fulford Staffs to an Ann Dean on the 2nd Aug 1824. Does anyone have the N. B .I for that time and place to see if the first Ann died please. He is with'Ann' on the 1841 census Gill

There is no Ann Proctor on the NBI second edition discs for Fulford. The only one of that name in Staffs is 8 Sep 1822 Anne PROCTER 46 Staffs Stone, St Michael Obviously this one is not her. There is no one with the surname Proctor buried in Fulford for any time at all I tried just the name Ann with no surname in Fulford to check if the church had been transcribed for the period you are looking at. It did bring up lots of burials, so if Ann Proctor mark 1 had died in Fulford around that time, she should have been on the list. Linda

Hi Linda, Thankyou so much for looking for me. I hate to be cheeky, but if you have time, even if it's not now, could you check for me if she died in Stoke on Trent, Fenton ,Longton, Lane end area, because that is were son William was born,i wondered if she could have died in child birth.Whenever you have time, i would be very gratefull. Thank's Gill

Thankyou Yvonne, my William was a blacksmith, but it just seems strange in a small village like Fulford there should be two William Proctors and two marridges in two years, and both to Ann. Iknow the first one is right because Ann Alcock had a base son who used the name Proctor all his life, i only found out when i sent for his sons marridge and under fathers name it said Samual Proctor alios Alcock, bit of a shock that was i can tell you. lol Thank's again Gill

An Olde Crone Report 22 Jul 2006 21:46

Gill From my own experience I can tell you that it is not at all unusual for two men in a small village to have the same name - they are probably cousins. In a village of approximately 500 people, I have seven James Holdens all born within two years. They are all related. From the information posted above I would say you have two different couples - the occupations are so different, and a blacksmith was an apprenticed trade - you would hardly jack that in after seven years slog. The two Williams are almost certainly related. OC

Sorry I didn't see your request, there are no Stoke results for her. I think it is certain that thetre are two couples involved as the others have said Linda
