Hi Yvonne I didn't notice the 'not born in county' entry for Sarah and the baby. Darn. But it doesn't say N either, and there are some N's on the opposite page. Is that wishful thinking? William Edwards is shown on various censuses as watchmaker, watch glass maker, jeweller. I was wondering if Henry was a brother. I don't have any info on William's birth family, just trying to piece it together by following names. For example the name Adeline goes down through the family so I have looked for an Adeline Edwards connection. I found an Adeline Edwards who married a David Blomfield who was a goldsmith. That got me thinking that maybe it was William's sister, the years are right and goldsmith and jeweller could be in the same field. But no proof of anything. Trying to find how to pin William down somehow so I can send for a cert of some kind. Have had lots of help on here but still unable to find anything definitive. I did try sometime back to find out if there were jewellers/watchmakers on any apprenticeship list but couldn't find any info. Thanks a lot for your help. Rgds Maggie

Hi Maggie 1851 Census shows William is a watch maker and says they are all born in St. Lukes, Middlesex. But 1841 census says Sarah and baby Sarah weren’t born in county. Also living in the same house 1841 is a Charles Mander & Caroline Mander He is a watch gilder living in the same house different household. / indicates this There was a / before Sarah’s name too, indicating she is living in the same house but not the same immediate family. Henry Edwards profession looks like a spring maker could the springs be for watches? On the same page in 1841 there are more watch spring makers and watch hand makers and gilders. Did they have to have apprenticeship for these trades? Just a thought Yvonne

Hi Yvonne Yes, I thought that might be Sarah's baby and I hope it is as I have been searching for them for ages. I have her on the censuses as having had a girl in 1841 named Sarah. I am just unhappy that her husband William was not there (if indeed she is his wife). Kathleen: yes it would have been a great help if they had been like the later censuses, but I suppose we must be grateful for anything at all. As you say perhaps there were visitors to the household, if Sarah and her baby are the ones I am looking for they would have to have been visiting too. It does look more like another Mary as I keep looking at it.

As there are no relationships given on the 1841 census, perhaps they are cousins, all staying in the same household. Kath. x

Thank you for looking everyone. I do see the older Mary, who is probably the Gran as you say. But further down the page are two more Mary's and it was the second one of those I was unsure of., they show one aged 13 and one aged 11????? Yes, the Sarah's are actually where I started because I do believe they are my missing ones. Just realised that her age of 15 would have been rounded down so it is very possible she is the wife of my William (missing on here) who I cannot find, perhaps he was off visiting somewhere.

Its really poorly written but dont think its adeline cos the last letter appears to be a 'y' cos the loop goes down on the name underneath. The first letter could be an 'O' but its a very hard name to decipher. Perhaps someone else could take a look. Shirley. Thers definately two mary's one looks like a gran by the age .

It looks like two Mary's to me. One is 55 years old (could she be Henry's mother?) and the other is 13 years old. Kath. x

Could someone please have a look at Henry Edwards b.1816 St Lukes on the 1841. They seem to have two Mary's on the list of relatives and I see the second one on the image is not a Mary. I would like it to be Adeline, but could someone see what they can make of it? Thanks so much.
