Does anyone know what would have been the occupation of someone shown in Parish Records as a WEBSTER in the late 17th century? Grateful for any suggestions! Chris

From the website Old Occupations.... Webster / Webber = Operator of looms; weaver - originally a female weaver Georgina.

A webster was a specialised weaving job - they made webbing. Several of my ancestors were Websters - the distinction between weaver and webster appears to have been something of a matter of pride. OC

My Websters were all in the late 1600 - early 1700s and all were men. Pre mechanisation of course. OC
