Hi, ive been trying to trace my gg grandfather and possibly find out his real name. The census info isnt pulling anything up on him (in the 1901 census when he married my gg grandmother she is there on her own). I had a brilliant idea and thought i would get the electoral register information of the house that my g grandad was living in when he got married, and see if the family are there. I got the results back today and there is no Walters family in that house or even in that street in a 5 year period either side of the marriage, so im back to square one again. That house is specifically important because that same house has a family of Walters' in in 1881 and i believe this is my gg grandads family, but i have no proof. What else can i do, or do i have to presume this is one dead end that is going to stay that way? |

The snag with electoral rolls is that not everyone was eligible to vote in 1901. Street directories will only show heads of household. It's a depressing thought, but it may not be until the 1911 census is available that you can find him. Other ways in might be WW1 records, if he was young enough to be signed up for it. If that record survives, you could hopefully find year and place of birth (though this may not prove reliable). Good luck! |

Thanks, i guess it is just a case of waiting until more BMDs come online. The dates i searched were 1922-1932 as my g grandad married in 1924, but neither he or anyone else with the Walters name appear anywhere. |
