I think you may have the problem that not registering a child at all was cheaper than registering late - right up until about 1875 (?). You may have to go for baptism records. Laceby and Keelby appear in the IGI batches for earlier years, so it may be possible to get sight of the relevant films fo rmore recent years via a local centre. Or you may be able to contact a relevant Records Centre which caries the original registers (or copies) and could send you copies (usually there's a fee to cover research time as well as the actual cost of copying the records and sending the copies). There's also another possible angle. They're unusual names - have you tried the Guild of One Name Studies? - or even googling? (If you google, you need to put names into inverted commas so that they're treated as whole search-terms and not searched-for piecemeal.) Christine PS - I don't know what Lincs RO is like for genealogy enquiries, but it's worth remembering that a few records didn't manage the leap from local to central records at the time of the quarterly transcriptions, so there might be an offical registration which isn't on the GRO index. |

I have just gone back and searched under all possible names without success. I suppose she must have just been missed. The only name that caught my eye was Annie Maria Hinch, Maria being Betsy's mother's name. But would you give two children Annie as a name and call one Betsy? |

Sorry, Elizabeth Ann was a Blanchard, born 1861, before her mother married James Inch. They were married when Annie was 3 months old. I am trying to work out just how long the marriage lasted. I know the child born in 1866 was registered as a Feek. Betsy is the one in the middle and could be either a (H)Inch or a Feek! Confusing lot, but interesting!! |

Elizabeth was my first though, but her older sister was Elizabeth Ann, known as Annie. I guess the name could have been used twice with Annie using it as a second name. I will troll through Ancestry again looking for Elizabeth as either a first or second name. Just thought if Annie used her second name, maybe Betsy did as well........ Thanks Christine in NZ |

I am looking for birth info on Betsy Hinch, Inch or Feek, born abt 1864, she was 7 on the 1871 census. The surname is confusing as her mother was married to James Inch or Hinch, both names used interchangeably, but by 1871 was living with William Feek, listed as 'consort' on the 1871. The next child after Betsy, William jnr was registered as Feek, as was one of the younger children. The registration of others, I have yet to find!! Betsy is one I can't find and I am interested in getting her birth certificate to see which man was listed as her father. I have tried Ancestry under each name but can't find a Betsy. She was probably born in Keelby Lincs, William jnrs registration district was Caistor. Finding her father would help to date how long the marriage to James (H)Inch lasted. Just to complete the picture, he had a 'housekeeper' in 1871, who he married in 1875! Cheers Christine in NZ |

My mum's name is Betty, but sometimes I refer to her as Betsy. I've heard it is often connected to Elizabeth. |
