I have just found a record of Harry McDonald Whiteman marrying in Wigan, Jul/Aug/Sept in 1891, but it does not give you a note of the spouse's name. Is there any way I can get this apart from ordering the cert? THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR HELP EVERYONE!

Unless you can narrow it down on FreeBmd Or have any info of their children, then its buying the cert i,m afraid. Shirley

From FREEBMD Marriages Sep 1891 Bimson Frances Wigan 8c 29 Moss Margaret Wigan 8c 29 Whiteman Harry McDonald Wigan 8c 29 Wright Joseph Wigan 8c 29 Do you have him on the 1901 census ?

The other names on the same page are Frances Bimson and Margaret Moss. You could try looking for him in the 1901 census and see if his wife matches either of these. You may also find children with the mother's maiden name as a middle name.

If you click view others on the page you see this Frances Bimson 1891 Jul-Aug-Sep Wigan Greater, Manchester, Lancashire View Record Margaret Moss 1891 Jul-Aug-Sep Wigan Greater, Manchester, Lancashire View Record Harry McDonald Whiteman 1891 Jul-Aug-Sep Wigan Greater, Manchester, Lancashire View Record Joseph Wright 1891 Jul-Aug-Sep Wigan Greater, Manchester, Lancashire So either married Frances Bimson or Margaret Moss The next step is to check the following census to see if there is either a Frances Whiteman, or a Margaret Whiteman Linda

Yes it is brilliant Snowdrops - AND, I have to say that if you think something is wrong - they actually look into it and reply!!!!!!!!!!! I had a marriage c1870 of my Mark Fenton - they had him down as marrying Margaret McLoughlin when I had him on 1881 married to a Jane and there was a Jane on the same marriage index page. I sent a couple of e-mails and they replied promptly - they looked into it and assured me they were correct so I ordered the Cert and they were !!!! Margaret obviously died shortly afterwards and Mark married again to a Jane !! Haven't been able to trace the death + remarriage but I know from other certs that this is correct. At least they cared though!! - I was most impressed.!! Dea x

The only Harry McDonald Whiteman I can find on Ancestry is in the 1871 census:- Duncan Cameron Whiteman abt 1867 Newbridge, Kildare, Ireland Son Hulme Lancashire Emily Whiteman abt 1836 Manchester, Lancashire, England Wife Hulme Lancashire >>>Harry McDonald Whiteman abt 1866 Catrie, Tipperary, Ireland Son Hulme Lancashire John Whiteman abt 1832 Glasgow Lanark, Scotland Husband Hulme Lancashire John Morgan Whiteman abt 1863 Dublin, Ireland Son Hulme Lancashire William Henry Whiteman abt 1861 Manchester, Lancashire, England Son Hulme Lancashire They were in barracks in 1871, and seemed to have moved about by the birthplaces of the children. I can't see him in 1901. Could he have gone back to Ireland? Kath. x
