Anyone else got any girls with this name? Interested to know its origins. My Laola was born in 1909, daughter of a Northumberland miner - sounds a bit posh? Commonly known as Ola, I believe. Jay

Have you got the name right - could it be misrecorded? Can't see it on baby names site.

Not mistranscribed Nell - it appears like that in the GRO birth index and also her marriage. Corresponds with the written info given by a family member - however, I had no idea that this was actually her name, as when I was a child, I'd only ever heard her referred to as Ola. Turns out her sister Rosie was actually Rosella. Another rather upmarket name for a pitman's daughter! Did wonder if their mother was a great reader and had got the names out of a novel? Jay

Yes, I can see it being used in later times - I've come across Lola, Leila and Layla, but have never personally heard of another Laola around that time. Thankyou both for your contributions Jay

My husband's Jewish gt grandmother was Rosella - until I found her birth cert. She was registered as plain old Rose.

It's a bit upmarket for my lot, though, nell - I knew her daughter was Rosella, but always knew the elder one as Rosie. No idea of her full handle at all until I looked up her birth reg. Jay
