There are now seamans records available on the national archives but can't see army records. Go to http://www.nationalarchives*gov*uk/documentsonline/ They have womens auxillary corp, seamens ww2 medals, ww1 campaign medals and victorian prisoners. There might be some links on from here but i didn't see them. Sorry Lyndsay

They have got to mean the medal cards, not the service records. 60% of the records may not survive, but some of those records can run to over 100 images. When the records were microfilmed, it was because they were too fragile to handled by researchers. The accountants at TNA must deeply regret the fact that digital imagery was not considered when the filming was done because they would do very nicely if those records were online. Never say never, but I can't imagine that this would be top of their priorities at the moment.

I got my grandfather's WW1 service record last week from TNA Documents Online, but he was in the RNVR, not the Army. Not much new information in it, unfortunately (I already knew his address and father's name, although not about the mole on his left buttock). Still, for only £3.50, I was glad to see it. Tim
