I have actually been to my Bermuda (on an ancestor hunt-lucky me, although I didnt find what I wanted.) Didnt see any sign of a garrison whilst there apart from near the naval dockyard. Just out of interest if anyone needs a look up I do have a book of the 19th century church registers of Bermuda which list all BMD from 1826-1913. Marilyn |

There is a bit about Prospect here: http://bermuda-online.org/seedevon.htm and here: http://www.bnt.bm/Places_to_Visit/garrison_cemetery.htm 'Garrison Cemetery in Devonshire was the cemetery for the British Army in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries when Prospect Barracks housed the British garrison.' There is a link to maps of Bermuda National Trust properties - it says the Garrison Cemetery is number 17 on the map. |

Thanks for the replies........I never knew my father had served in Bermuda until I received a copy of his army papers recently...... Yes Paul, he was in Bermuda in 1934 age 20 and was often in trouble being out of bounds and drinking in places that were out of bounds......places mention are Prospect,Moasca? Tiberias.....he was often in trouble and some time after he returned to Britain he was AWOL for 14 days for which he was punished, had he not been AWOL I would not be here today. |

There's a reference to Prospect Garrison, Bermuda. British troops paved and repaired the original military (now a civilian) road from Fort Prospect in Pembroke Parish to the Royal Naval Dockyard in the west and the garrison town of St. George's in the east - and erected the rifle range at what used to be the British Army training camp on the Old Military South Road - now the South Road - in Warwick Parish. There was even a British Army Garrison school in Bermuda until 1953. 1934 to 1935 Wing, 1st Battalion, Manchester Regiment was stationed in Bermuda - is that when your father was there? |

Apparently there wasn't an army barracks, and they were stationed in temporary accomodation around the town of St. George. I found this on Google:- http://bermuda-online.org/britarmy.htm Kath. x |
