When I enter a person on my tree, I have to enter the year of birth and place of birth before it accepts the entry. Why is it that on some trees that I am able to view, either one of these is missing? Can someone tell me how this is done?

Hi Alan, I think this can only be done by importing your family tree from another program that does allow you to enter names without dates/places. Sarah

Sarah is right,if someone uses say Family Tree Maker and exports a gedcom to GR,the missing dates are accepted without a problem. Glen

And sometimes when you uplaod a gedcom, GR's gremlins remove a lot more dates from your tree, leaving is semi-incomprehensible!! Merry

As a person who imports Gedcoms to update my GR file I'd just like to say it's not that I can't be bothered to put in birthplace and year. Most of my rellies have a place and date of BAPTISM (that's all that's usually available pre 1837) but GR don't recognise this and leave blanks. GR keep promising to update the site so these details will be recorded but after 3 years of promises I'm not holding my breath............

My family history software, Ancestral Quest, gives me various options for the details it includes in a Gedcom export for living individuals. I only create a Gedcom with 'Name Only' for living individuals to put on GR. GR accepts this file and shows no date or place, however you must put something in the date and place fields when entering manually. Paul
