Shelley, by far the best site for those with Cork ancestors in my opinion is corkancestors(.)com.

Hi Jayne, in answer to your original question, I've just popped by to have a look at Griffiths Valuation and didn't find it useful at all. It brought up the name and location for me, I expected to click on something to look further to see if that was my man but that wasn't possible. Looking on the forum someone had posted a question asking if they could look further, there was no reply. I cannot see anywhere where I could look further, so perhaps not a site I shall be visiting again.

See 'First Steps in Researching Irish Family History to include Griffiths' (on page 1 of Tips Board as writing this) for more information on Griffiths Valuation Index but also for Griffiths Valuation, which has more information than Griffiths Index. See also my notes on special indexes for Cork and Kerry Counties. Janet,

It's the nearest we have to a census, so if you're lucky you could find your ancestor listed. Where in Ireland are you looking? I've noted some good websites for Cork.

Hi everyone While trawling through the net I came across the Griffiths Valuation. Has anyone used this? If so is it any good? For those people who haven't, it is the replacement for the Irish census. Jayne
