i am in ftm and click file and then export file and then entire file. i am saving it in my documents and naming it ftm 05. when i am on genes reunited and i click on imprt gedcom i browse in mydocuments and find ftm 05 but whe i try to import the file it says - please select a valid gedcom file - the file extension should be .GED so i have renamed the file ftm 05.GED and retried but no luck I am sorry if i sound a bit of a duffer but if anyone could help me i would be extremely grateful love linda x x

When you export your file from FTM you go to File - then export - and then you get a box where you have to type a file name. Under this is another box which gives the type of file (file name extension). On FTM 2006 the default is a *.FTW file (would imagine that FTM 2005 is similar). You need to change the file type to a *.GED (gedcom type file) You can then import the gedcome file into GR
