It depends on what you have requested. If its a John Jones birth, parents William and Mary (formerly Smith) you might get a couple of certs, if they both match the criteria.

If the reference check doesn't match then they won't send the cert.I tend to think that in a case like this you would have been better ordering from the local office if possible,and they usually let you know if there is no match or more than one. To order 5 seems a little excessive,and the part refunds won't offset the excess certs ordered. Most local offices have someone who will advise you on the best course of action,the GRO can't really do that. It's like visiting the corner shop as oppossed to a big superstore chain. Glen

Did you check that his birth was not on IGI first. That may have saved you odering 5 certificates. Good luck Irene

hi catherine you contact the relevant office and they check for you but they wont send u a cert until you confirm thats the 1 that u want gillie

Found 5 references to G grandad have the GRO numbers, so have ordered 5 with them all to be reference checked, will they send the correct one if they have it or will they send all 5. I'm only hoping 1 of em is correct, with the info on parents names etc I have given them. There is an option to stop at the first ref they find do I tick this/ thanks catherine xx
