Linda That last comment is very interesting, and VERY in line with what Merry suggested. Mmmmmm - blinkin' intriguing. I don't like to be beaten, so will try another tact. Suzy

Sorry took so long to get back little grandson felt poorly. He's having a story with Grandad at the moment Right...Walter Albert Trowbridge is my husbands Grandad. Witnesses at the wedding were (not very helpful) A.L.Howard and M.F. Smedley. I found an Annie Dunn on 1901 census living as neice in Fulham, which is where in 1915 she got married. Also when Annie married Walter they had 8 children, looking on the BMD for mothers maiden name 5 had Dunn 1 had Ferguson-Dunn and 2 had Ferguson. Linda

So, if that's the correct Jane (aged 41!) then the father's name on Annie's marriage cert must be fiction for his surname (Dunn) if not the whole thing?? Under more usual circumstances I would have guessed the father was called Ferguson. Merry

Linda Annie married a Walter A Trowbridge. What are the names of the witnesses on the marriage certificate? Suzy

I thought that Julie. Maybe it was her last chance of motherhood, but she was unmarried. She is living in Beckenham on the 1901, which is pretty close to Lewisham, where her daughter was born. Suzy

Seems a little bit odd - mum has middle name of MERCY - father has middle name of TENDAR (tender?). Do you think it is a made up name?

Darksecretz

Darksecretz Report 18 Jul 2006 16:29

hiya, i know this probably isnt going to help, but perhaps she made the name up to 'save face' when getting married, Julie

Hope your grandson is OK? By the time you get back, I won't be here!! I couldn't easily find Jane and Annie in 1901. Have you got them? I was wondering if Jane was still unmarried (as the birth cert suggests) or perhaps she was married/widowed, but had a child with someone else. The reason for me wondering was that I couldn't see a birth reg for a Jane Mercy Dunn. I did see this though..... JANE MERCY DUNN Female -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Event(s): Birth: 03 JUL 1855 Christening: 01 AUG 1855 Christ Church, Hoxton, London, England -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Parents: Father: JOSEPH DUNN Mother: ELIZA -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Messages: Extracted birth or christening record for the locality listed in the record.
