Hi Carole, A hooker was a textile mill worker operating machinary which laid out fabric in uniform folds to required length. Welcomb Street was in Hulme Manchester. Try Manchester archives local studies web site it has quite a few old street names plus some pictures. Hope this helps Best wishes Cheryl

Hi Carole I had exactly the same problem the other day with a birth certificate. You can send it back and ask them to handwrite it for you and they don't charge this way it is clearer. I have the address here if you want it. Have you tried to scan it and enlarge it to see if it makes it clearer? Jen

hope someone can help please. i recieved my gran and grandads marriage cert today but am having trouble deciphering the handwriting. i the rank/profession box for gran it looks like the word ''hooker'' im sure that must mean something other than the obvious!!! also i am having trouble reading the address. it looks like 118 wilcomb street hulme-but i cant find any relevant info when i search. the marriage took place 26th august 1933. can anyone point me in the next direction? thanx
