in 1861 (am I spoiling your fun? - sorry if I am!) You should be able to find Mary Ann Richardson with her family, in Burnley. Christine |

I've found Susannah BUTLAR in 1841, in Read, aged 16. It demonstrates that Whalley is an ok District for the purpose, 'cos that's where they are (just can't see where that Leatherton surname came from - if it's her)... George Butlar abt 1779 Lancashire, England Nancy Butlar abt 1806 Lancashire, England Alice Butlar abt 1813 Lancashire, England Margret Butlar abt 1815 Lancashire, England George Butlar Jur abt 1821 Lancashire, England Easter Butlar abt 1823 Lancashire, England Robert Butlar abt 1824 Lancashire, England **Susanna Butlar abt 1825 Lancashire, England Grace Butlar abt 1831 Lancashire, England Mary Butlar abt 1839 Lancashire, England William Butlar abt 1840 Lancashire, England Christine |

There's a Henry Butler connected with Woodplumpton - I think he must be the Preston one, for whom birth records appear here and there. Read/Padiham is still Burnley as a District for Registration. Christine |

There is this one, but it's a bit soon, and the area's a bit iffy, I think?... In 1851, he's aged 4, with his mother Susannah Hope - presumably a second marriage already? - Or was she called Butler?? off to try 1841 - was going to look for Susannah, but need a surname... Christine |

Henry's a stepson in 1861 - b Read, living Padiham, aged 14 in 1871, he and his family are lodging in Burnley (he & Mary A, aged 24). Note that the householder is Ann SHEPPHARD, shopkeeper, who has an unmarried daughter, Elizabeth Ann RICHARDSON, aged 15... Christine |

In 1881, they're in Milton St, Burnley - Henry's a coalminer. I've just realised. Henry & Mary Ann appear to be 10 years too old in 1901 compared with 1891 and 1881. They're born mid 1840s according to those two earlier censuses. That certainly makes it hard to find him! (Found by looking for the children with more unusual names). Christine |

The enumerator couldn't spell the name ''Henry'' and put an extra ''e'' in all instances: ''Henery''! You may be able to find them then! Christine |

The 1881 family are in Salford. I reckon the 1881 children's births appear on LancsBMD as well. there seem to be most of the names - including Rose Ann at the right time. (She was 8, so born 1872-3, and there's an 1872 birth recorded in Salford Regents Road area). Christine PS - this is definitely the wrong family for you (but it might be useful for someone else!) going by the other finds... |

I had a look on LancashireBMD (http://www.lancashirebmd.org.uk) for marriages for H BUTLER, between 1850 and 1901, in Burnley, and found this one ''hit''! Lancashire Marriage indexes for the years: 1866 Surname Forename(s) ~Surname Forename(s) ~Church / Register Office ~Registers At ~Reference BUTLER Henry ~RICHARDSON Mary Ann ~Burnley, St James ~Preston ~CE110/1/365 It looks hopeful - but you'll need some hard evidence to justify claiming this. If it does turn out to be right, then you may be able to get a copy Register page instead of a certificate! :-) Christine |

I can't find my GGG Grandfather Henery Butler, born 1836, where he is listed as livng on Pilling Street in Burnley, married to Mary Ann. I can't find any evidence of his existance before then. Can anyone help. I would be grateful for all the help I can get. regards Colette |
