Please can you offer me some suggestions to sort out this riddle – I’m stuck. I have marriage cert for William Burgoyne m Sarah Harley in Wigmore, Herefordshire 21 Jun 1838. Details of groom William Burgoyne, 23, Bachelor, Occuption Mason, Res Wigmore, Father William Burgoyne, Mason. (Later census record William b 1815 to have been born in Madley, Herefordshire) After Sarah’s death in 1851, William remarries an Elizabeth Burgoyne. I have tracked Elizabeth through census from 1841 – 1901 and I am convinced that she was born Knighton on Teme, Worcs in c1832. Her father was Richard Burgoyne b c 1796, Shobdon, Herefordshire. There is an IGI record (extracted not submitted) for a baptism of Richard Burgoyne in Shobdon parents John Burgwyn & Elizabeth I want to establish if Elizabeth & William are related. This is how far I’ve got. Richard Burgoyne b 1796 & William Burgoyne b1815 are related because in 1861 Henry Burgoyne, nephew born in Wigmore in 1847 is with Richard’s family. I believe that this is Henry Harley Burgoyne, son of William Burgoyne & Sarah Harley. I do not think that he really is a nephew to Richard as Richard and William are not brothers (different fathers) but imagine that it was just the closest term the enumerator had to use. The IGI record shows a number of baptisms for children of John Burgwyn and Elizabeth inc William b c 1791 in Shobdon. I think it looks as though Richard and William b 1791 are likely to be brothers. This would mean that in marrying Elizabeth, William b 1815 might have married his first cousin. I really want to find out if this is the case. So I think I need to find out more about William Burgoyne father of William b1815. I thought that my best course of action was to find William senior, William b 1815 & his wife Sarah in 1841 to try to tie them together by location/occupation but I cannot find them. Can anybody else, please? Here is a possible for 1851, the birthplace of wife suggests they may be the right ones. Here is the family of William Burgoyne b1791, Shobdon living in Shobdon, Herefordshire. William Burgoyne b 1791, Shobdon. Stone Mason Mary Ann Burgoyne b 1788, Madley, Herefordshire Ann Burgoyne b 1828, Shobdon, Dau Thomas Burgoyne b1842, Shobdon, Nephew Elizabeth Swain b1830, Shobdon, Dau Soloman Swain b1829, Leamington Many Thanks, Helen
