Hi I can't find Charlotte or Edward death, nor a possible marriage for Edward. I can't find a marriage for Caroline & Jasper although I have all their children baptised at St Dunstan's in Stepney. The only one I can look for in UK is Edward. The 1851 census says he was born in Aldgate so I tried Whitechapel, Stepney & Bethnal Green for him...nothing. I have no knowledge of this, but is it a bit strange to come from the West Indies, have one child born at sea then what I think to be her grandaughter born in France. Would she have come from the French West Indies, got to France having had Mary Ann on the way ? Mary Ann is called Spencer and the children called Shepherd or could that just be an entry error ? Rgds, Jeanne |

1st post in a new thread is always jumbled up - no idea why. What you can do is post something like 'see below' and then add a reply to your own thread with your message in that. nell |

1851 census has them living at 36 Devonshire Street, Tower Hamlets. Charlotte is a widow, working as a shirtmaker. Mary Ann, daughter, is also a shirtmaker Caroline, daughter, is working as a servant Edward, son, is a frame maker. |

Excuse me as I am going to put this into a format easier for me to read: 1851 census - Charlotte King abt 1789 Win British Subject Head [born in Nevis] Caroline Sheppard abt 1833 Fra British Subj Daughter Middlesex [born in Le Havre] Edward Sheppard abt 1837 Aldgate Son Middlesex Mary Ann Spencer abt 1819 Banet Sea British Subject Daughter Middlesex Caroline Lucretia Shepherd had a number of children with Jasper Robert Lay, although I can't find a marriage entry. Can't find Edward after 1851 nor Charlotte, although I found Mary Ann Spencer living with Caroline & Jasper in 1861. I am assuming that Mary Ann Spencer is the mother of Caroline & Edward (even though they are called Shepherd) and not Charlotte, from the dates. Can you please advise me where I go to find out when and how Charlotte got here, also wher 'At Sea' was Mary Ann born. |

1851 census looks like Charlotte was born in Nevis, and I discovered Caroline was born in Le Havre (with help from this board) Charlotte King abt 1789 Win British Subject Head Middlesex Caroline Sheppard abt 1833 Fra British Subj Daughter Middlesex Edward Sheppard abt 1837 Aldgate Son Middlesex Mary Ann Spencer abt 1819 Banet Sea British Subject Daughter Middlesex I am having such problems with this. I know that Caroline Lucretia Shepherd had a number of children with Jasper Robert Lay, although I can't find a marriage entry. Much appreciate any advice you can give. Jeanne |
